About GCCF Church
Greater Community Christian Fellowship, formerly known as Community Church of God in Christ,
was the only Church of God in Christ in Benton Harbor. The late Bishop Nathaniel Wells Sr. came to Western Michigan and took over this, then mission church in the city of Benton Harbor in 1940. The mission church was located on 8th Street in Benton Harbor, Mi. In 1945, the church was burned down forcing services to be held from house to house until worship services began to be held at the 2nd Baptist Church.
In 1947, construction for the Community Church of God In Christ facility started on Washington St. (now Nate Wells Sr. Drive). Construction for the present structure began in 1974 and the congregation moved in 1975.
At the demise of Bishop Nathaniel Wells Sr., Bishop Nathaniel Wells Jr. pastored the church from 1983 until the year 2002 before turning the leadership over to his son, Elder Nathaniel Wells, III in October of 2002.
The Church, now Greater Community Christian Fellowship, continues to expand under the leadership and vision of Pastor Nathaniel Wells III who, since taking the pastorate, has diversified the church body as well as promoted a generational tolerance amongst the various age groups.
The membership of the church reflects the influence of these three men of God as our congregation consists of members who sat under the leadership of Both Bishop Wells Sr., Bishop Wells Jr. and Pastor Wells, III. Deacon Eli Burton has been a member of the church since its inception. He recalls all of the buildings and he has been a member for over 64 years and currently serves as Senior Deacon of the church as he has for over 33 years. His grandchildren and great grandchildren are also active members within the church body.
Greater Community Christian Fellowship has been blessed to have inherited the generational blessings of Bishop Nathaniel Wells Sr, Bishop Nathaniel Wells Jr., and Elder Nathaniel Wells III.
We will impact the community, City of Benton Harbor and the world with the message of Jesus Christ; improving the spiritual and physical development of mankind through the word of God.
Origin - Matthew 25:31-40
